Vancouver Design Agency Spotlight: Cowie and Fox

Image

Cowie and Fox is an exciting ad agency in Vancouver that focuses on creating stylish and creative collateral. The campaign that I am going to specifically talk about is their “pro-reality” and “live free” platforms for Lululemon.

They are a small agency, but through this campaign and partnership with Lululemon, they were able to help skyrocket them to success, expanding from one store to an internationally-acclaimed chain.

I really like this campaign because it simultaneously highlights the Lululemon mission and core values and social commentary on our overly-digital culture. I love that this local design studio is supporting and enhancing another local company. As a former employee of Lululemon, I definitely was aware of these initiatives and design aesthetic, but it is really interesting to me to know that it originates here.

Designer Research Essay Proposal

For my Graphic Design research essay I would like to take a deeper look at Saul Bass. I am fairly shocked that I had never heard of him before IDEA, especially since now that I am aware of him examples of his work and of work he has influenced seem endless. I am intrigued by his particular use of typography and simplistically brilliant poster illustrations. Above and beyond his prolific portfolio of film poster and motion picture title sequence design, I am also boggled by how he he was able to carve out a career designing some of the most iconic corporate logos (that have lasted to this day), including Dixie, Girl Scouts, Quaker Oats, United Way, etc.  I can only imagine that researching such an immensely multi-talented designer will yield priceless lessons for an emerging designer like myself.
